In November 2000, the gallery moved to its present location in 16 Wharf Road, Islington, adjacent to the cutting-edge art area of Hoxton,[3] where it is housed in a two floor, 10,000-square-foot (930 m2), converted Victorian furniture factory, ten times the size of the Cork Street gallery.[3] Miro's co-director, Glenn Scott Wright, attributed the move to the "buzz" in the area, where Jay Jopling's White Cube gallery had also moved, and saw other galleries following suit, since rents in the West End of London were quadrupling.[3] She was described by Christie's curator, Gerard Goodrow, as "a leading figure in making the East End the center of contemporary art in London."[8]
Essex Road is a station on the proposed Chelsea-Hackney line. This scheme is currently being pursued by the developers of Crossrail. It would connect the station to the London Underground network for the first time since the Northern City Line was transferred away from the Northern Line. It would be located between Angel and Dalston Junction. Trains would go to King's Cross St. Pancras, Epping and South West London. [2]
City Road is a disused London Underground station in Islington. It was one of the stations built when the City & South London Railway (C&SLR) (now part of the Northern line) opened its extension from Moorgate to Angel on 17 November 1901. It is located between Old Street and Angel.
In early 2007, the building was again put on the market, this time for £650m. At the time, this made it the most expensive building ever sold in the UK, as a private US company - Beacon Capital - agreed to buy it. However, 8 Canada Square in Canary Wharf eclipsed this by some margin when, in April 2007, it was sold for over £1 billion.
