Utilities are the tools which help you to feel more comfortable and live a normal and calm life.

Sometimes you should ask yourself which tools we use to call utilities.Correct-because not only the cable television (or satelite) and internet are the only one to be called utilities in your life.

Take a look in the kitchen and you will see the mixer, the kitchen robot and your favourite coffee machine. They are also listed in the electrical items.

But there are a lot of manual items which we use every single day.May be in your home this is just the kitchen utensils and cutleries. But these are stuff which you should pack for your moving too.And they are really so much. You cannot just collect them and put in a big box and put lable-sharp and dangerous-No.Although that the labels are correct you have to pack them in the most safe way because there is a big risk to move sharp items like knifes, forks and even spoons.

You can act in two directions and each depensd on you.If you have available the original boxes of your cutlery set use it-because each knife, fork, spoon has its own place and it is most safe. But if you don't have it you should do as follow: Take out all your cutleries on the kicthen top and separate them :spoons, forks, knifes.Supply with wrapping papper and use it to pack each piece of your set.Wrap from bottom to top and try to cover with more papper the sharp edges. After this you can use a shoe box (it is smaller but have enough space) and put them inside.Use some layers from the wrapping papper for the bottom of the box.Put inside all groups. Some padding material on the top is a good idea.

It is winter and you are moving.Winter garments, shoes and all necessary accessories take huge place if you have to pack them. Now you have the chance to save some space.Talk with your family members and decide together what you will need till the day of moving.Jackets, boots, hats, shawls, bags and other stuff.Separate the items you will use and start packing the other.Garments, shoes is easy to be packed.Use simple naylon bags for each item (this concerns the garments and other textile stuff),use shoe boxes with separate papper and of course boxs for all the stuff you are packing. It is harder to pack the skis, snowboards, sledges. These items you can include in the list with the big and special items.Use padding material and safe packing materials in reason to prevent them from any possible damage.Use labes with fragile and early packing and inform your moving agents what is inside. They should know in reason to arrange the boxes in the moving van in the most protective way.

Moving business is a complex one and has its own language. This means that there certainly will be some phrases and expression wich you will not understand.Because of this you can ask your agent for everything which is unknow for you because in this way you will avoid any misunderstanding for further stage of your moving.Ask questions all the time.Movers are awared of what are they doing, speaking and calculation but for your his is an extremely new area and if you don't settle your question there is a possibility to be lied in the calculation of your cost or with some articles in the contract you'll sign with the moving company. You can also take this contract at home and read it carefully before to sign it.If there is a way ask the agent to send the contract via e-mail.Check it and if there are some articles you don't agree with mark them in red and take a note to ask if they can be changed or totally removed. You should be always on the alert and keep an eye on each document your are signing or paying for.

Bedroom migh be one of the rooms which will take you longer time to pack for your moving.Wardrobes and other small chest of drawers can be dismantle using a scheme, cloths are easier to pack and what about the bed? This is serious question and the reply is simple-there is no firniture that cannot be packed. The same with your bed.First of all have in mind that you should take the sizes of your bed without the spring mattresses -if some.Take in consideration that some beds cannot be dismantle and it will be necessary to be covered with special blanket or bag before loaded in the moving truck. It is sure that you don't have at your home such big sized cover so you can discuss this matter with the moving company. If your bedroom has a huge and massive bed you can ask the movers if they will estimate you an extra charge depends on the weight, lenght and high of your bed.If you have a spring mattress you really should keep it dry and wihtout any damage while the moving process is in action.Because of this you can ask in a specialized store for a suitable bag with zipper. This will prevent the mattress from scratches, holes and it will keep it dry and safety.

If you have a special designed bedroom with canopy for and example you have to take it off and pack in a bag together with your sheets, pillows.Sometimes canopy has a special system for hanging up on the top of your bed and if you are not able to handle it contact the company which have put in on.They will advice you how to proceed with this.

You have a big family and your kids are the most precious in your life. You buy them toys all the time and so does your husband, father and mother. In a momet you can't realize that you have some much toys in your kid's rooms that you don't have enough space even to breath. One day is the time to move to a new place because this home is too tiny for you and your ig and happy family. Here comes the moment with the packing. You know what is inside all the rooms except the kids' room. There is a big mess and you even have to fight with all the big plush bears, lion and all the other toy which are all around. But you certainly can manage with this and win the battle.First of all gather all your kids and ask them which toys they cannot live without and which of the they can hanle living without.Separate them in piles and give your kids the task to pack them in boxes obseving the rule that the breakable one should be among the soft or plush toys in reason to have them whole in their new room. The other one you can use for some charity.Search for the near orphanage ,contact the director or the supervisor and explain them that you want to make a donation -toys for the kids there. They will be very happy to meet you and you will be happy to see all the kids there smiles and playing with the toys.

Whilst packing and making the inventory of your stuff it is a good idea to use a color marker to separate your items. Why marker?Because the colored labels often fall down and your mission will failed.Make a plan which color to use for your rooms and make a legend together with the list with the inventory. For example you can use yellow for the kids room, red for the bedroom, orange for the kitchen and blue for the bathroom. When you have all your stuff pack in one room take the color which you defined for it and draw a big X with the color marker on the each box.Be sure that all the boxes ar from one room-don't mess the kitchen with the bedroom because this will cause you too much discomfort and chaos when unpacking. But this is not the end of your colored mission.Keep in hand the list with the legend and in the day of moving when you arrive at your new place mark the door with a colored lable on the door. The labels should be in a well seen place in reason the movers to know where to put your boxes.

You have your luxury silver colection of spoons, cups, trays, dishes, candlesticks and vases. To pack them for moving should be a careful action.Fos sure you have to include this collection in the list with your values. Each silver item should be packed alone. For this you can use a special acid free papper to protect them from potential tarnishing. If you have the intention to use a sample wrapping materials or even newspappers be sure that this is not a good idea and certainly not safe for your silver items. This kind of materials are rough and not soft enough and may leave some scratches on the silver surface. After you have supplied with acid free papper wrap each item carefully to avoid any damage.Keep the surface away from any sharp items around you.It is also your choice if you will polish or not them before packing. For sure polish will be  good when unpacking.

After you have packed each silver use a box to put them in.Put on the bottom some padding material to avoid any brakes. You can out between each silver item some towels, linen or small textile items.Silver items should have no place to move in the box. This will keep them out of getting scratchy.

Put a special label with some decription on the box-mark with fragile and expensive. You can also inform your moving company for your collection or even find a place in your car for it.

Packing the electric device at your home is an action which need more cautios and safety.Everything you need to be moved should be packed for sure.Be sure that you have the proper packing supplies.Concerning the big electric devices it is recommended to use the original boxes or find (buy) boxes with similar sizes-padding materials too.It is good to pack the devices one by one in reason not to loose some parts which are with small sizes but importnat use.Because of this you should first rejoint the device using a scheme which all ofthem have.Collect all the wires, buttons and other parts in one box or bag and use a lable to mark what is inside.Big parts of the devices such as the monitor of your computer, the printer main body or the auido system should be put in boxes very carefull and some padding around to protect them from any damage during the moving to the van and after that discharging to your new place. You can search for some guarantees inside and look what is included in the list with the insurance terms. It is also a good point to make a list of all your electric devices and give it to the moving company. This will increase th safety of your stuff. When you ar giving the moving company this list you can ask if they have an article in the contract for cause of damages during the travel. For sure you have to be really caefull with this kind of stuff in reason not to spend money for new one or for needless repair.

When moving house out of town or country, your moving expenses can be reduced by first organizing a garage sale. It is through a garage sale that you can get rid of all those unwanted things that take up space when moving house.

However holding a garage sale does not mean that you just put all your stuff on your garden, waiting for people to come and buy things before moving house. There is some preparation that you have to do for an organized garage sale before a move.

1.      Plan your garage sale some time before moving house

The first thing you have to do is to fix a date well before your moving house date, and cancel all other commitments for the day of the garage sale. Get friends, family or neighbors to help you move.

Next choose an area of your home for pricing the items and another area for storage of items before the garage sale to make moving house easier later.

2.      Place signs in nearby streets some time before moving house

Collecting shopping and grocery bags will make it easy for customers to take home their buys and later proves helpful in your moving house packing. Also save newspaper, bubble wrap and wrapping paper to wrap breakable pieces for customers and for moving house.

During the day of the garage sale know how much money you had to start the day for accurate calculations at the end of the day. Have at least one helper to help sell stuff, wrap items and answer queries by customers.

3.      Donate leftovers to charity before moving house

After the garage sale, you have to decide whether you need to keep or discard the leftover things before moving house Throw damaged, dirty and broken things while leftovers can be donated to charity before you move. Clean up the garage sale area, and then get ready for moving house.

Once your garage sale is over, you can get along with your moving house preparations.

Once you are completed with your moving house preparations and traveling.

Moving is, in a word, chaotic. You’ve already had to deal with the stress of selling your home and buying a new one or finding a new place to rent. Now you’re knee-deep in boxes and packing tape as you prepare to make the switch from one house to another, praying your great-grandmother’s china teapot survives the move in one piece.

With so much going on, it can be easy to forget about your insurance needs at a time like this, but ensuring you have adequate coverage will help take some of the stress out of your move.

Home insurance

You have a home insurance policy, but you may be wondering if that coverage will continue while your personal belongings are in transit between houses. The short answer is to clear all this with your moving company – you have the same coverage for your belongings while they’re being moved as you do when they’re under your roof-this what you wish ,but  in reason to avoid any misunderstandings contact your mover.

The long answer includes all the specific details about how your home insurance policy protects you during a move. Below some points  which may be included in your insurance contract:

Your home insurance policy includes something called transportation peril.  Essentially, this means that your policy will cover loss or damage to your belongings if there is an accident involving the moving van or vehicle that is carrying your items.

Your policy also may includes a theft peril, which covers your belongings if someone breaks into the moving van or vehicle containing your property and some or all of it is stolen.

And if you do decide to hire a moving company, be sure to check for any insurance they provide.

When in storage

Perhaps your move is not of the let’s-get-this-done-in-a-weekend variety. Maybe it will take weeks, even months, to complete your move and in the meantime, you need to store some of your belongings.

However, to ensure your belongings are properly covered while in storage contact your moving company  to make sure you have the right insurance for your specific circumstances.

  • Keep things together
Insist on keeping things together when you or the movers are packing boxes. Keep bookends with books, light bulbs with lamps, and extension cords with appliances. Small, loose parts can be attached to the item they belong to with tape or placed in small envelopes -- to keep picture hooks with pictures, shelf brackets with a bookcase, a special wrench and bolts with the wall unit. Keep larger corresponding items (such as a cable TV cord) in resealable bags, and tape these to the underside or back of the item. As a backup, have a "Parts Box" open on the kitchen counter and fill it with cables, cords, parts, pieces, brackets, or nails that are removed from any items of furniture. Keep this box with you, or mark it well with a rainbow of colored stickers so it can be easily located on move-in day.
  • Keep important pappers with you
Your list of "important" papers might include: birth certificates, school records, mover estimates, new job contacts, utility company numbers, recent bank records, current bills, phone lists, closing papers, realtor info, maps, and more. Don't leave these with the mover. Keep them with you!
  • Personal stuff
Use brightly colored storage tote boxes, one for each person. Let each family member fill theirs with items they'll want 'right away' in the new home -- a set of sheets, a towel, a couple of extension cords, a phone, nightlights, address book, pens and paper, keys, kleenex, and travel cosmetic case, and so on.

Be safe, smart and efficient! If you're doing your own packing, make sure you give yourself plenty of time; at least six weeks before your move date and plan carefully. Careful planning and packing will save you time, money and a lot of hair pulling.

Decide what will move with you and what will stay behind. There may be items that you don't need anymore or that aren't worth moving or perhaps your move is temporary and certain unnecessary things can be put into storage. No matter what the answer is, decide beforehand what stays and what goes. If you have items already in storage, make sure you take a thorough inventory to ensure you're not moving items you could do without.

Try to estimate what you'll need and make sure you have enough on hand. Start collecting boxes from your place of work, from friends or from stores. Or purchase moving kits or packing kits online or from moving companies.

Start packing items you can do without. If you're moving in the summer, pack all your winter clothes, sports equipment and heavy blankets.

While you're packing boxes, make sure you label the top and sides of boxes with contents, location of contents in your house and if there are any special instructions, such as "fragile" or "open first". This will assist the movers in putting the boxes in the correct room and will warn them of any fragile items. Also, by keeping a complete list of the contents on the outside of the box, you'll save time digging through 10 boxes marked "kitchen" just to find the can opener. It is not sure that this list will not be lost so you can tape this list and save it in your personnel computer ot laptop.

Some of your stuff you can use as an additional safety to your fragile items.Clothes, towels, linens, pillows can be used to keep fragiles safe. Just make sure you mark this on the box for when the box is unpacked. If the person who is unpacking the box is unaware that a crystal vase is wrapped inside a fleece blanket, they could easily unfurl the blanket sending the vase crashing to the floor. This has happened to me on more than one occasion!

When it is about to move big items ,firts is to disjoint it and of course collect all pieces in you place-bag or container. When moving furniture, make sure you keep all parts together with the item itself. Screws, bolts and other small pieces can be put into a self-locking plastic bag (sandwich bag/freezer bag) then taped to the furniture itself. If you're moving a table, unscrew the legs, tape the legs together then tape the parts bag to the underside of the table top. You can even tape the legs to the underside of the table top just to ensure that the legs don't get scratched or dented in the move.

Try to use boxes that are a standardized size, they are easier to stMoving home is can be one of the most stressful experiences we ever go through in our lives. The entire process of packing up our belongings, leaving our home, and moving to pastures new is bad enough - add to that the fact that we must entrust our possessions and their transportation to complete strangers. It is no wonder our stress levels soar!
The problem is we do not usually move often enough in our lives to make it a process we can get used to. We are generally all novices when it comes to moving and this is apparent through our lack of organisation. But, like any process, moving is all about being in control and knowing what you are doing in advance. You are about to discover more about one of the hardest part of the process of moving - choosing a removals company. You will find more information on the other fine points of moving on the menu on the left side of the page.
Choosing a good moving company can be difficult. We have all heard horror stories from friends and families about disreputable companies and it is essential to sort the good from the bad as soon as possible. Wherever you live, you can guarantee that there will be various moving companies eager to help you out. Your hardest task is choosing one that is right for you – it is vital that you get this choice right. Getting it wrong can cost you time, money, and disruption. Choosing a moving company is very much an individual choice and your decision should be tailored to your actual requirements.
These days, moving companies can offer you a wide range of additional services on top of their basic removal competencies. These can include packing, the sale or hire of packing materials, unpacking, and storage facilities. Some companies will even pack your possessions, transport them, clean your new home, unpack your possessions, and arrange them at the other end according to your instructions. These additional services will obviously cost you more money but can be worthwhile.
As a guideline you should chose your moving company at least 4-8 weeks before your moving day. If you leave it too long and you might find that the good companies are fully booked and you will be left with fewer choices. It is advisable to choose and book your company as far in advance as possible. You should be talking to your shortlisted companies as soon as you have an estimated moving day. Bear in mind that movers are often busy at the end of the month, on Fridays, and at weekends, and may charge more for these premium times. Many will inform you of their quiet days such as Mondays. They may even be prepared to offer you a discount to move during their less busy periods. It is always worth enquiring!
To make the best choice, you need to think about what you want from your move. The first thing you should do before contacting removal companies is make a quick checklist of what you would require them to do. This list will assist you in getting the best quotes, as you can be able to be very precise about your requirements. Examples include:
• Your preferred moving dates
• Are you looking to move locally, long-distance or, even internationally?
• Do you want help with packing, hire/buy packing materials, or simply want to pack up the items yourself?
• Will you need the moving company to transport valuable or fragile items?
• Do you want to hire a vehicle so that you can move yourself?
• Do you need storage facilities?
• How many possessions do you have?
• What insurance will you need?
The best way to find a reliable moving company is by recommendation or reputation. If someone you know has had a good experience, then try and go with the same company. However, you do still need to be careful. For example, if a local removals company successfully moved your mother across town, they might not necessarily have the skills, resources, and experience required to move you internationally. Talk to your realtors or estate agents - they should be able to recommend experienced and knowledgeable companies. If you are looking to move fairly locally, look out for removal vans passing on the roads, or local adverts. This way you might be able to see the vehicles of certain companies on a frequent basis and you can take some comfort from the fact that they are busy.
Many of us will simply choose a removals company from a Yellow Pages or similar directory, or from an Internet search. Some of us will simply choose a recognised name - i.e. a national company - and others might opt for a smaller local company. In all cases, it is especially wise to choose companies who have taken the time and trouble to become accredited members of a recognised removals association or trade body. You can assume from this that they are legit and this will put your mind at rest. They will most likely have to adhere to certain standards and you might have find an alternative company if you do have problems. If you are at all suspicious, check out their membership. You are entitled to ask them for referrals from previous satisfied customers. You do not have to follow up on this but, if the company seem less than willing for you to talk to people they have previously dealt with, you need to consider if they are the right company for you.
Once you have drawn up a shortlist of potential removal companies, you will need to start the negotiation process. You will find a wide variety of costs and services available and various types of pricing. Some companies will charge you on an hourly rate, some by estimated volume based on the rooms of your current property, some by estimating what types of furniture and goods you need to move, and others by the estimated weight of your load.
It is advisable to compile a list before you start talking to people, as you will need to be prepared for bombardment of questions from companies. Write down the number of rooms you have in your existing property. List big items of furniture and try to estimate how many boxes you will be packing. The easiest way to do this is to go into every room in your house, list the big items, and then work out how many boxes it will take to remove the remaining items in the room. Remember to consider any garden furniture and the contents of your garage and attic. Do not worry about it being exactly right - the moving companies will not expect it immediately. Try and be as accurate as possible to ensure the best quote. If in doubt ask the removal companies for advice on how to estimate. You might be surprised at how helpful they can be - many will happily send estimators to your home to put together a quotation.
When it comes to costs, you should aim to get at least 2-3 quotes before you make a final decision. Do not just consider the price but also what they can offer you for this amount. It might be more cost effective to pay a little more to acquire more services. Do not be afraid to ask them about how long they have been in business, their experience, and customer referrals. Talk to them about how long they think it will take to move you. Remember to ask them about their insurance cover, claims protection, and to what extent it extends. You should NEVER select a moving company who do not have adequate insurance. It is also important to get a quote in writing and to make sure that you completely understand how the quotation has been worked out. Remember to read the small print. For example, some moving companies will not cover you for any damage if you pack the goods yourself, unless they have played an obvious role in damaging them. You must make sure that they not only explain your quote to you but that you get a full copy that includes all relevant terms and conditions, bills of lading etc. It is also good to ask how many members of staff will be assigned to your move - the more there are, the less time it will take. Most people generally find that three staff members is an ideal number - this gives you two people to do most of the loading/unloading, and one person to sort out the vehicle. It also enables somebody to be with your possessions most of the time for added security.
You need to be particularly careful if your moving estimate is based on the weight of your shipment. This type of quotation has specific problems, as it can be hard to estimate the weight of goods before you actually weigh them. In these cases, an estimator will generally work out the weight for you before you are given a set price. However, your goods will be weighed once they are packed up and if the weight is higher than the original estimate, you might be liable for extra costs. In these cases always check first about how the moving company's system works and establish how binding their quotation is. You could run into serious problems if you do not clarify this in the early stages. If you refuse to pay excess charges, the mover can hold onto your possessions until you resolve the dispute.  You can also be charged for any storage facilities needed during this time. It is vital to spend time assessing the company. It is advisable to be present when your goods are weighed to check the accuracy of the process. You can ask for a reweigh if you are not sure - make sure that the company agrees to this before the process begins.
Once you have talked to your shortlist of removal companies and have read and understood their quotes, you will be ready to make your choice. You might make your choice depending on costs alone, or you might prefer to go with the company with you feel most comfortable. Once you have made a decision you will probably be asked to sign and confirm a statement outlining your agreement. This is advisable as all parties will know where they stand. All you need to do now is get ready for your moving day - don't forget to contact your movers a few days beforehand to confirm your arrangements!

Try to use boxes that are a standardized size, they are easier to stack. Remember to stack heavy items at the bottom and lighter ones towards the top.
Leave small walkway aisles between the boxes and furniture in your storage unit to enable easy access to the items you want. This will save you having to move anything around and causing any potential mess.
If you are storing a lot of packing boxes in your unit, try to fill any half full boxes with any extra padding such as crumpled newspapers. Boxes that are only half-filled tend to collapse over time if anything is placed on top of them.
If you’re putting any metal objects into storage such as lawnmowers or filing cabinets, make sure they have been cleaned and dried before they are stored. For items that are prone to rust, wipe them down with an old cloth containing a few drops of machine oil to hinder any rust.
Most public storage facilities have sufficient security. However, it is still advisable to take some precautions of your own against potential theft or damage. Pack your storage unit so that your highly valuable items are at the back of the unit. It is a good idea to purchase a high quality padlock to secure the door.
The humidity in your self storage unit can sometimes cause mildew to appear on your furniture and appliances. Leaving a space between your items and the unit wall allows air to circulate within the unit. Laying plastic sheets on the floor and stacking boxes on top of wooden pallets, can prevent any damage caused by condensation. Place old linen sheets or other fabrics over boxes and furniture to protect your belongings from gathering any dust.
If you are storing a refrigerator in your unit, leave the door ajar. This will prevent mould from growing inside from any residual bacteria or germs.
Avoid storing any food/ drink items with a limited shelf life in your unit. This will prevent anything going out of date and causing any nasty smells or spillages.
Under no circumstances should you keep anything flammable or combustible in your storage space. This includes gasoline, oil, cleaning fluids, or paint thinner. If you are storing any machinery that runs on gas, such as lawnmowers, drain the tank before you store it. Do not store any hazardous chemicals, fuel, or illegal items.

Location, location, location: an important factor. If you need the self storage facilities on a regular basis, you need one in close proximity to your home. However, if you are relocating further afield and will need storage space on route, you can find a reputable storage facility in most areas.
Consider how much space you really need. Self storage facilities rent units in many different sizes. It is best to choose a smaller storage unit and pack it to the ceiling than to pay for space you won’t use. If even the smallest storage units are too large, look into mini-storage facilities: self-storage facilities catering for small loads.
Remember to ask facility representatives how and when you can access your unit. Most self-storage and mini-storage facilities have free 24 hour access, but some facilities have restrictions and can charge fees for access out of standard working hours.
Ask about climate controlled units. If you are storing anything valuable or delicate such as antique furniture or important documents, they could be damaged as a result of being stored in a space that is too hot, damp, cold, or humid. For an extra cost, most public storage facilities can set you up with a unit where the temperature is controlled and humidity levels are restricted.

Tips for storing your belongings suitably
Moving and finding good storage facilities go hand in hand. Chances are if you are relocating, you will have to put some of your belongings into storage on a temporary or long-term basis. Unless you are paying the moving companies additional fees to use their storage facilities, the chances are you will have find a self-storage unit to rent.
Self storage units – these are usually boxy, mini-warehouse buildings often found on the side roads of main highways nationwide. Renting self storage units can seem like a pretty open and shut job: you open the door to your self-storage unit, you unload your belongings into it, and you lock the doors. However, public self storage isn’t quite that simple. Even though it is just sitting there, a lot that could happen to your belongings in self-storage. It is important that you pick a suitable self-storage facility adequate for your needs. Once you have found one, it is equally important to ensure you pack your self storage unit correctly.
