St Mary Axe

The street of St Mary Axe is famous for fronting the Baltic Exchange. Nearby parishes include the medieval Great St Helen's (1210) and the St Ethelburga (14th Century).

Fenchurch Street railway station

Fenchurch Street railway station,[3] also known as London Fenchurch Street,[4] is a central London railway terminus in the south eastern corner of the City of London close to the Tower of London and two miles (3.2 km) east of Charing Cross. The station is one of the smallest terminals in London in terms of platforms and one of the most intensively operated. Uniquely, it does not have a direct link to the London Underground, but a second entrance at Crosswall (also known as the Tower entrance) is near to Tower Hill tube station and Tower Gateway DLR station, and Aldgate tube station is also nearby. It is one of eighteen UK railway stations managed by Network Rail.[5]

30 St Mary Axe

In September 2006, the building was put up for sale with a price tag of GB£600 million.[23] Potential buyers included British Land, Land Securities, Prudential, ING and the Abu Dhabi royal family. On 21 February 2007, IVG Immobilien AG and UK investment firm Evans Randall completed their joint purchase of the building for GB£630 million, making it Britain's most expensive office building.[17][24][25]

East Finchley tube station

Like the other stations that Holden designed for London Underground in the 1930s, East Finchley station was at the forefront of British architectural design and took inspiration from European architecture (particularly Dutch) that Holden had seen on trips to the continent during that decade. The track here runs roughly north-west to south-east. The imposing station building, built on rising ground adjacent to the railway bridge over High Road (A1000), has two entrances. The main entrance is at the south-east end of the station. It is on the north-east side of the tracks facing High Road. There is also a smaller, secondary entrance at the north-west end, on the south-west side of the tracks, at the end of an access road called "The Causeway". It is possible to walk through the station from one exit to the other without going onto the platforms.
