Moving House-How to Make it Easier for Children
Published on Monday, 18 October 2010

Moving House-How to Make it Easier for Children When you're occupied with the tedious jobs involved in the move, it's easy to forget about your children's needs. Children may feel anxious too. And like you, they are going to begin a new chapter in their life. They will have to adjust to a new home, new school and new neighborhood.
Preparing a child for a move may not be as easy as you expect it to be. Children don't usually like changing routines. That's why you need to let them know about your decision as soon as you can. The more time they have to prepare and think about the move, the easier the transition will be for them.
On the moving day, be sure to stay as calm and positive as you can. You can either keep them occupied with toys or hire a baby sitter to make things easier for you and your movers. If you have school-aged kids, let them help you pack and move boxes containing their things.
Once you arrive in your new home, start unpacking your essentials first. Get your child's favorite stuffed toy and let them play while you unpack other boxes. Allow your child to have a say on how they want their rooms to look like. Better yet, let them decorate their rooms so they can easily settle in your new home.
