Tate Modern

The design of the new extension building, also designed by Herzog & de Meuron, has been controversial. It was originally designed as a glass stepped pyramid, or zigurat, but this has recently been amended to incorporate a sloping façade in brick (to match the original power-station building)[20] after feedback on the original design was unfavourable.[citation needed] The extension will include galleries dedicated to photography, video, exhibitions and the community.[21]

Bankside Pier

The Bankside Pier is a stop on the river bus service in London. It is located on the south bank of the river Thames, close to the Tate Modern museum.

Southwark Street

Under the railway bridge carrying trains to Blackfriars Station from the south some urban art work has been placed on the south-side, whilst on the north-side the word 'BANKSIDE' has been placed in very large lettering occupying most of the wall against the pavement. This is part of the area and tourist branding as the relationship with the ancient district of Bankside is tenuous, the most that can be said is that Southwark Street defines the southernmost limit of Bankside.

Harringay Arena

Behind the scenes moves for the Arena's disposal had been going on for some time. International food retailer and manufacturer, Home & Colonial Stores Ltd were offered the site in 1957. They took possession of the building and the adjacent market hall in 1958. Works to convert the Arena to its new use were complete by February 1960.[26] It was henceforth put to use as a food storage facility for the next 20 years until its demolition in 1978.
