Victoria Embankment

The Victoria Embankment is part of the Thames Embankment, a road and walkway along the north bank of the River Thames in London. Victoria Embankment extends from the City of Westminster into the City of London.

Embankment tube station

From 1 August 1872, the Middle Circle service also began operations through South Kensington, running from Moorgate along the MR's tracks on the north side of the Inner Circle to Paddington, then over the Hammersmith & City Railway (H&CR) track to Latimer Road, then, via a now demolished link, on the WLEJR to Addison Road and the MDR to Mansion House. The service was operated jointly by the H&CR and the MDR.[4]

Charing Cross

The name originates from the Eleanor cross erected in 1291-4 by King Edward I as a memorial to his wife, Eleanor of Castile, and placed between the former hamlet of Charing and the entrance to the Royal Mews of the Palace of Whitehall. The cross was the work of the medieval sculptor, Alexander of Abingdon.[1] Originally built in wood, it was replaced with a stone and marble monument.[2] The name of the hamlet of Charing is derived from the old English word "cierring", referring to the nearby bend in the River Thames.[3][4]

Hornsey

In 1954, the first Lotus Cars factory was established where the Funky Brownz Bar (formerly the Wishing Well pub) now stands on Tottenham Lane. In 1968, Crouch End was briefly the scene of a student revolt at Hornsey College of Art.
